Local Councillor Liz Leffman is writing to the chair of the national Post Office to seek urgent reassurances for Charlbury Post Office.
Cllr Leffman understands that the national Post Office has informed Elaine and Tim Newbold who run Charlbury Post Office that the so-called “Core Payment” that they depend on to stay open will stop on the 1 March next year.
Upon receiving the news, the couple felt obliged to sign a Conditional Resignation Notice which allows the national Post Office to look for an alternative location for the Post Office counter.
“Without their Core Payment, Elaine and Tim are very clear that it will be uneconomic to keep Charlbury Post Office open,” says Liz.
“They provide a vital service which many in the village and surrounding area depend on, and are extremely popular with us locals.
“I will be writing to Tim Park, chairman of the Post Office, for urgent clarification, urging him to re-consider a decision that would be a hammer blow to the local community.”
