Didcot Garden Town consultation closes on 18 December

Didcot Liberal Democrats are urging local residents to give their comments to the initial consultation on the Didcot Garden Town before the deadline of SUNDAY 18 DECEMBER 2016.

Liberal Democrats support the awarding of Garden Town status to Didcot. We have long been calling for the County and District Councils to work together with local enterprises to come up with a common vision for the town, rather than letting it fall prey to speculative development.

There is however a fundamental disagreement between the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats in Didcot about the way forward. We see the Garden Town status as a way of providing what the people of Didcot need: affordable housing, a unified town, improved transport links with the surrounding area, pleasant and interesting green spaces, amenities like allotments and leisure facilities; and not just an opportunity for consultants and developers to make money by cramming in ever more houses.

Former town councillor, and Chair of Didcot Liberal Democrats, David Rouane says, "Much of what is being proposed is out of keeping with the vision of Didcot as a Garden Town."
