This is the most important by-election in my lifetime.
If people get behind the Liberal Democrats in Witney, it will send a very powerful message to the Prime Minister that West Oxfordshire will not stand for her yanking Britain out of the Single Market. That would endanger local jobs and be a quite extraordinary act of economic self-harm.
That's why I'm incredibly thankful that the influential European Movement, established by Winston Churchill, has thrown its weight behind me as the pro-European candidate with the best chance of success in the Witney by-election.
The group, which campaigns for Britain to remain within the European Union, recognises that Liz is the only challenger to the Conservative candidate - who voted Leave and is backing Theresa May's plans for a hard Brexit.
European Movement's endorsement is a real honour, and huge boost for our campaign, ahead of a massive action weekend in Witney - where more than 1,000 Liberal Democrat activists are expected to hit the streets.
The endorsement could not be more appropriate as we now have the support of a movement founded by Winston Churchill, who was born in the constituency at Blenheim Palace.
This endorsement also comes on the back of the bookies slashing Lib Dem yet again, to 8/1 while the nearest political rival is 100/1.
The Liberal Democrats are now the free market, pro-business, internationalist party. The Conservatives are reckless, divisive and uncaring. And we are the real opposition in Witney to the Conservative Brexit government.
This is what European Movement had to say in their endorsement of Liz:
Witney has the opportunity to show that pro- Europeans cannot be ignored. For a committed pro-European such as Liz to win the seat formerly held by the man who called the referendum that went so disastrously wrong would be a clarion call for pro-Europeans.
People in Witney voted by a clear majority (55%) to Remain. It is essential that Witney has a pro-European voice in Parliament, holding this ‘Brexit’ government to account. Liz should be that voice.
We are a cross party organisation, however, we believe only one pro-European candidate can win, and in this election we feel that Liz Leffman stands the best chance.
