Catherine Bearder MEP has welcomed the progress being made by the Horizon 2020 project - an EU funded £60 billion research and innovation programme.
The programme is the largest of its kind in the world and is only possible because EU member states pool resources to invest strategically.
The region's universities could be in line for almost £1 billion worth of science funding based on what they currently receive.
"This marks a historic shift in EU spending towards boosting innovation, creating jobs and helping small businesses,” said Catherine. "Universities and companies across Oxfordshire are now in line for millions of pounds worth of funding, enabling them to create thousands of new jobs and develop technologies."
Catherine Bearder MEP meets EU funded scientists working on a Malaria vaccine at Oxford University’s Jenner Institute. This is just one of many projects receiving EU funding for science, research and innovation in our area. Investment on this scale is only possible because EU countries work together to fund innovation and research.
