Abingdon Town Council has unanimously passed a motion which thanked local businesses and community groups for their help in feeding children who needed it and committed to families who normally receive free school meals over school holidays.

The Town Council, made up of 18 Liberal Democrats and one Green, has committed to working with other local councils.

Liberal Democrats have launched a campaign calling on Oxfordshire County Council to ensure no child goes hungry over school holidays.

Cllr Andy Foulsham, who proposed the motion said: "It is heart-breaking to think of any child going hungry over Christmas."

"I'm happy we've taken this step, and it should be the absolute basics of governing for Oxfordshire County Council to follow suit."
