Rethink the Eynsham Houses!

Eynsham and the surrounding villages are set to change immeasurably over the coming years. The speed of growth is eye-watering, the consideration for the environment is non existent and the infrastructure plans woeful. The Conservatives have let us down and we must take control to minimise the harm.

The local plan is part of the wider Oxfordshire Growth Deal which was signed in 2018 by the Labour and Conservative council leaders running Oxfordshire. It means that 100,000 houses have to be built in the county in the next ten years - a rate of growth never previously seen in the county. It will increase the number of house in Oxfordshire by more than a third!

What's worse is that the Conservative County Council is completely failing to provide the necessary funding to support all these new houses. Eynsham already suffers from chronic congestion along the A40 and the Tories in charge think that over 3,000 extra houses can be built around the village of Eynsham by putting in a Park and Ride. Even the planned dualling of the A40 carriageway from Witney will end at Eynsham, leaving the last few miles a single lane in constant gridlock

Funding for the B4044 Community Path was not pursued by the County Conservatives and the Conservative Government abolished zero carbon homes in 2016 as soon as the Lib Dems left office. It is time for things to be done differently and local people to have a voice at the table when the decisions are made.

We the undersigned think that the master planning for Eynsham and the surrounding villages should be done with the highest level of environmental measures possible and that the infrastructure needs to be radically improved to include safe and convenient bus, rail and cycling routes.
