Lucio Fumi is standing in the Oxfordshire County Council elections on 4 May 2017 as the Liberal Democrat candidate for the county division of Sonning Common.
Lucio says, "I am a doctor and work in cancer research. I am Italian, have been in this country since 1993, and since then have lived in the hamlet of Wyfold, three miles north of Sonning Common. In 2003 I was granted British Citizenship, which I have always been very proud of – even in the last year, after the madness of the Brexit referendum.
I am married (my wife is English and works for the NHS), and I have two daughters. We live in a beautiful part of the world (most of it officially an AONB), and we must keep it that way, opposing the uncontrolled building trend we see these days. We need more houses, but in the right places.
Our home is in the corridor between Oxford and Reading, with a high concentration of science and innovation centres, and we must do all we can to support and encourage this direction of development. We must put more money in our schools, our NHS, our roads, and make our county a place we and our families can be proud of.
I am standing for the Liberal Democrats at these county elections because it is the party that has always had a consistent position not just on Europe, on freedom and tolerance, but also on all these important local matters."
