Nearly two years ago on our very doorstep we had the Witney by-election, where members from all over the country came together to deliver a serious blow in a previously safe Conservative seat. We put the Liberal Democrats back on the map as a serious political force in British politics.
This Thursday we have the opportunity to do the same thing, for Lucy Salek in the Lewisham East by-election. Labour are defending a majority of over 22,000 but voters in Lewisham East are saying that they are breaking the habit of a lifetime. They are going to lend their vote to Lucy and the Liberal Democrats, because they are determined to send Jeremy Corbyn a message that they do not support his damaging hard Brexit stance.
The campaign over the last few weeks has been incredible to observe. We can be a part of it, even if we can't make it down to London, by helping out making phone calls for Lucy.
Come along to our office in Oxford opposite the train station and help by making some calls to voters. It will be good fun, and feel great to be a part of the exciting campaign. We'll be there from 5.30, with someone at hand to help you if you've never made phone calls before.
If you could bring a laptop that would be helpful (but not necessary), and please try let us know in advance if you won't be able to use your own mobile.
