The Liberal Democrats now running the Vale of White Horse District Council are putting the battle against Climate Change at the heart of their agenda for the district.
“The Council voted to support our motion declaring a Climate Emergency at the last meeting, and we are now starting to set out how to put that commitment into practice,” said Cllr. Emily Smith, the new Liberal Democrat Leader of the Council.
“It was clear during the election campaign that the Climate Emergency is, rightly, a major priority for local residents. We are 100% committed to ensuring that our decision making always takes account the impact on the environment.”
At its meeting this Wednesday 17th July, the Council will discuss a proposal to establish a Climate Emergency Advisory Committee.
The role of the Committee will look at how the council can reduce its impact on the environment through its policies, review the way the council works to improve its direct impact on the environment, and provide community leadership.
“We are determined to do everything we can to help tackle the Climate Emergency here in the Vale,” said Cllr. David Grant, who will be proposed as the Chair of the new committee.
“We are also pushing for the Government to give local councils more power and resources to take action on this vital agenda.”
