Liberal Democrat Leader at Oxford City Council, Andrew Gant, has expressed deep concern over the loss of 400 jobs at the BMW Cowley Plant.
Andrew Gant, who is the Liberal Democrat Leader at Oxford City Council said: “Oxford Liberal Democrats are extremely saddened to hear of substantial job losses at the BMW Mini plant in Cowley."
Andrew, who is the shadow spokesperson for growth at the City Council, said "These are very worrying times for all those affected and their families, and many others whose livelihoods are threatened by the pandemic and its consequences. Our thoughts are with them. We will continue to do all we can to support everyone in Oxford and the surrounding regions through these challenges."
Local MP Layla Moran, said “This sad news shows the impact the coronavirus pandemic is having on jobs right here in Oxford. I am very sorry to hear about these planned job losses. The Government must do everything it can to protect working people through this crisis.
“And we need to make sure nobody who loses their job at this very difficult time is left without the support they need to get back on their feet.”
Andrew added, "Going forward, it is essential that we all work together to find the right model of sustainable recovery. Liberal Democrats in Oxfordshire will play a full part in that process”.
