This winter, many of Oxfordshire's rivers and streams have flooded fields, roads, gardens and - sadly - homes.
The climate emergency means that we can expect more extreme weather patterns and heavier rainfall in future years.
Yet Cherwell District Council plans to authorise major new developments in areas which are already at high risk of flooding, even though government projections show peak river flow may increase by up to 35% by 2050.
Lib Dem Campaigner, Calum Miller said: “Parts of Langford Village had a close escape at Christmas. With Lib Dem and Green colleagues, I’ll be pushing for a ‘NO flood guarantee’ that new developments won’t increase the risk to existing properties. This a particular concern with the new proposals for Wretchwick Green and Gavray Drive.”
I/ we the undersigned call on Cherwell District Council to guarantee that no new developments will be approved in areas of high flood risk based on 2050 projections.
