The disastrous Oxford-Cambridge Expressway that the Conservatives wanted to build has been scrapped. This is a huge victory for local campaigning. But there are increasingly worrying signs that the Tories now want to build it by stealth.
In his statement announcing the cancellation Transport Secretary Grant Shapps, said: "Government will continue to work on alternative plans to boost transport connectivity in the arc."
Meanwhile Oxfordshire County Council is anticipating at least 862,000 new homes will be delivered across the arc over the next 30 years.
That's continuous and unchecked housing delivery for the whole of that period at rates far in excess of anything previously seen.
It would almost double the number of houses in the county. No one has voted for that change.
Will you join our campaign to give locally elected councillors the final say on the future level of growth in Oxfordshire?
