The local Lib Dems are calling on West Oxfordshire Council’s leadership to adopt more realistic housing targets and to insist that infrastructure comes before housing.
The Conservatives on West Oxfordshire District Council have signed up to build more than 10,000 homes between 2021-2031. This is an unprecedented rate of housing growth.
Our towns and villages don’t have the schools, health provision, sewage or transport networks to cope with this level of development.
In 2021, property developers made up more than half of large donations received by the Witney Conservatives.
More realistic housing targets will lead to better quality developments, more suited to the local area, and make it easier to negotiate the right infrastructure. It will also make it less likely that the district will miss its housing targets, making speculative developments less likely.
We, the undersigned, call on West Oxfordshire District Council to adopt more realistic housing targets and to insist that infrastructure comes before housing.
