Plans for 4000+ new houses between Didcot and Harwell - known as ‘Valley Park’ - will form a new housing development equivalent to the size of Wallingford. The three existing GP surgeries in Didcot are already overstretched and under immense pressure, approaching dangerous levels. Currently patient numbers are approaching 50,000, and Valley Park will bring another 10,000+ residents to the area.
Given the size of the Valley Park proposal, we are extremely concerned that primary medical care (in the form of GP surgery provision) is not currently included in the planned development.
The GWP healthcare centre should have been opened by the 1500th occupation. All 3000+ houses on GWP are almost complete but the healthcare centre is not yet built - it does not even have planning permission.
Liberal Democrats across the county are campaigning for infrastructure to be in place before new housing, including healthcare facilities big enough to cope. Valley Park must not go ahead until firm plans are in place to support the healthcare needs of GWP and Valley Park.
I, the undersigned, call on the Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group and the developers to ensure that plans are brought forward to ensure the provision of adequate healthcare facilities for GWP and Valley Park before the development goes ahead.
